I like this book because it reminds me of Dr. Seuss books, except with a funny twist. The first chapter, ‘Big Fat Cows’, is a bit weird because it is describing different cows: for example: ‘cows underwater, cows in space, cows in boats, cows in suits, big fat cows in cowboy suits’.
The chapter ‘Klaus the Mouse’ is quite strange, because they are saying he has a small house the size of a mouse. But Klaus the Mouse hates his small house, because Klaus is a BIG mouse – bigger than a person. As big as an elephant!
If you liked the first book, The Cat on the Mat is Flat, then you will like this one even better: even weirder stories and even funnier pictures. Zany, crazy and funny.

My daughter is a struggling reader but we had bought The Cat on the Mat is Flat ages ago and she always insisted it was her most treasured book. She has had it for two years but this year she was able to read it - front to back - with almost no help. It drove me and her teacher mad with her persistance and determination to read the whole book. When she finished it just recently I thought that we’d have to re-read it as there was NO alternative book that she wanted to read! Then I found a reference to The big Fat Cow goes Kapow - THANK GOODNESS!!!!! I am pre-ordering it right NOW. Keep up these books. There is almost nothing out there other than Seuss that targets that reading level. THANK YOU.

Thanks, Heather, that’s great to hear! After The Cat on the Mat is Flat, The Big Fat Cow that goes Kapow should be a cinch … (though slightly more messy!)

Sorry Branden, I can’t email everybody in person–or visit nearly as many schools as I would like– because writing the books is so time-consuming, but am happy to respond to as many comments as I can on this blog.

My son is looking forward to reading your newest book. Please email us and let us know when and where we can purchase THE BIG FAT COW THAT GOES KAPOW. We live in the U.S. and I know he would love to read it Summer 2008 for summer reading. We were at Barnes and Noble earlier this evening and tried to purchase another one of your books but were looking for something more appropriate for his level. I pulled up your website and was excited to see that your newest book is out. Michael really enjoyed THE CAT IN THE MAT IS FLAT and we have been searching since April to find something that he might enjoy as much.

Hi Heidi,
The Cow book will be published in the US either later this year or next year. In the meantime I’d suggest putting in an order with one of the online bookshops listed on the right hand side of the Books pages. They will be able to supply one direct from Australia.
